What Could the Past Hold that Causes Your Fear?

Face Your Fears, http://www.sxc.hu/

What is it about the past that causes fear in peoples lives today? Consider a different way to look at your fears and help yourself to learn new ways to deal with fear.

Why are people afraid of the past? Now that seems like a silly concept, doesn’t it? How can peope be afraid of the past when it has already happened? Yet when looking closely at fears for the future, people will see they are often repetitions of old fears, or of things that have happened to themselves or to others in the past.

What Is it People Fear?Do people fear losing the one they love? Do they fear losing their job, their security?

Look Back at the Past and SeeMost people will have “lost” someone or something they loved? They have felt that their security was “taken” from them? Consequently, the fears they hold for the future are a deep rooted trauma that the past will repeat itself. Some may even be fearing something that happened to someone else. That also is in the past, even if it is not directly their own.

Self-fulfilling PropheciesAs a matter of fact they live them every day and every moment of their lives. People prophesize failure, then manifest it in some form, and the first words out of their mouths are “I knew this would happen”. People think they might get lost on the way to a place they have never been, so of course they do, and comment “I ALWAYS get lost when I go to new places”. They are creating repeat performances of their past and fulfilling their “worst” expectations.Conversely, when people sincerely expect to succeed, they do. Some people say that we get what we ask for. But in truth, we get what we expect, what we are willing to receive, and what we think we deserve.

Stop Expecting the WorstPeoples lives need not be a series of reruns. Each day can be a brand new show. They may have gone to bed feeling tired, but after a good night’s sleep, they wake up feeling refreshed. In the same way, even though their past may have had “more than their share” of trials and tribulations, they can let that go! So what if people felt their mothers didn’t love them! So what if a previous lover left them! So what if they failed in the past! It is all in the past!

Today Is a New DayIt can be a completely new start, if everyone treated it that way, not goading themselves into a self-fulfilling prophecy of misery. If people arose each day with the attitude that this is a brand new day, a brand new life, it is more than turning a new page—it can be a completely new book. Perhaps in an earlier novel of their life, they were always left with a broken heart.

Everyone Should Write a New Scenario In this story, they are the self-confident, attractive, loving, and lovable heroine (or hero). They always get what they choose. People choose success, wonderful loving relationships, loving friends, a fulfilling job or career, etc. They can change their script by changing their thoughts and becoming the person they want to be. Becoming the kind of person they would like around them. If they have been crying out for love, they should be more loving. Never mind the meticulous dissection of others’ relationship with them to see if by any chance, these people are acting out one of their fears (rejection, abandonment, lying etc.).

Change Expectations, Change ThoughtsStop expecting disappointments and let-downs at every corner. Start living each day joyously, like a child that always expects wondrous surprises, and finds them in little things like ant hills and blades of grass, or a smile and a kind word.

Be Thankful for the Good in LifeWhat people focus on gains importance and expands. So focus on a joyful expression of life. Be thankful for things that sometimes are taken for granted, like flowers, butterflies, sunshine, rain, a smiling face on the street, a roof over your head, food to eat, etc.

A Face that Smiles Spreads JoyBecause the world is a mirror. When people smile and put love in their heart, they see and feel it reflected all around them. People should not expect the world to change first. It should start with them. Focus on the beauty in life, however small the feeling is. Putting a smile in a heart, however shaky that smile may be. People should not be afraid of the past or of the future. They should become a child again expecting that everyone that comes to them is bringing a gift.

“Seek and Ye Shall Find”Look for the beauty that is to be found in everyone and everything. That is the gift waiting all people.

It’s up to everyone—the present is yours to discover.
